Our semi-annual poetry contests award a multitude of prizes to deserving poets. There is no fee to enter our contests, so you have nothing to lose. Monthly poem challenges offer fun competition throughout the year and are judged by you, the poets! Each month we will post a new challenge asking you to write and submit a poem based on a theme or style of poetry. Also, read the guidelines for poetry rating to get an idea of what our judges look for in a winning poem! The National Amateur Poetry Competition is now accepting entries for our next contest.

We encourage new and previously unpublished poets to participate. All qualified entries will receive notification of acceptance within a few weeks. There is no set topic or style most likely to win. More than anything, prize-winning poems employ a number of poetic devices, including figurative language, vivid imagery, personification, alliteration, and irony, just to name a few. Enter Now.

We call on you—poets, writers, fellow human beings—help us expose the especially heinous crimes committed against a peaceful and law-abiding group of Chinese citizens: Falun Gong practitioners. American poet Marc Smithbelieving the poetry scene at the time was "too structured and stuffy", began experimenting by attending open microphone poetry readings, and then turning them into slams by introducing the element of competition. The performances at a poetry slam are judged as much on enthusiasm and style as content, and poets may compete as individuals or in teams.

The judging is often handled by a panel of judges, typically five, who are usually selected from the audience.
